Johnson Shows Pigs found its start when the Johnson boys, Michael, Jake and Caleb, decided they no longer wanted to only show steers or sheep in 4-H.  They started with their first hog project in 2003. Noticing a lack of availability for show pigs in the area, they decided to start their own hog operation with the help of their father. After hours of studying genetics and breeding options, along with trips to visit hog operations and boar stud facilities in the mid-west they were ready to begin. Through this hard work, Robert and the boys purchased and bred their first gilts in the fall of 2004. The first year was a learning experience for everyone, and the gilts produced good litters, including the 2005 grand champion hog at the Bingham County 4-H/FFA Market Hog Show.

Ever since then the hog operation has continued to grow and thrive. This is in large part to the continued efforts of Robert and the boys to understand industry trends. Michael, Jake and Caleb continued with 4-H during high school including livestock judging and evaluation at a national level. All three boys have earned bachelor’s degrees and are entrepreneurs who have individually started their own businesses. However, all three boys and their wives still provide continued assistance around sale time and through-out the year. Continued trips to the mid-west, Robert attending National Pork Conferences and research has resulted in Johnson Show Pigs ability to continually improve their practice and raise high quality breeding gilts, 4-H projects and market ready hogs.
